Today... the day before Thanksgiving. We are doing nothing. I am baking pies and prepping a little for my portion of the meal. We will probably hang out, play basketball, watch a little tube. Relax!
Last year all of the kids made these so cute place cards. They took floral wire and branches and berries from the trees and bushes in our yard and shaped them into the first initial of one of our family members. So beautiful and we dried some... they were great. I am hoping my daughter will make one that says "happy thanksgiving" or just "happy". I would love to have one to hang all year long. My mother still has a set of handmade place cards with drawn turkeys, leaves and pumpkins on them that my daughter made when she was 4 or 5. I love those too. I love that my mom has hung onto them.
I truly hope that each of you have a wonderful holiday of Thanks and fun! peace!
the desserts I am making today:
Burnt Sugar Pumpkin Pie (can't remember where I got the recipe, I found it just written on a piece of paper. I haven't made it before but it sounds good)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
2 tbls butter
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
1 cup pumpkin
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 c chopped pecans (toasted)
In a med pan cook the granulated sugar to med brown. Reduce the heat and stir in corn syrup brown sugar and butter - remove and cool. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Whisk eggs, vanilla and salt and add to cooled syrup mix. Add pumpkin and spice and mix. Pour carefully to precooked pie shell or par-cooked. Hmmmm don't know how long. I guess until it is done.
I will let you know how it turns out!
ps. I am also making Flan! I will take pics and post later!
